Puffin Glass Works

I moved to Milford Haven from South Wales after years of visiting Pembrokeshire. As an artist, Wales is a great place to be based, there are such a lot of lovely places really close by that give me inspiration,

Although I have hand painted glassware for a long time, in the last few years I’ve increased production of the fused glass. It’s always popular and is made in my little workshop at the bottom of the garden in Milford Haven. My newest creations have taken inspiration from the waves and coastline around Pembrokeshire.

Dichroic (Meaning 2 colours) glass was originally developed as a way to put a metallic coating on glass for the US space industry.

It is produced by spraying thin layers of metal oxides such as titanium and magnesium onto the glass surface at very high temperatures in aa vacuum furnace.

As many as 30 of these layers are on the glass yet the thickness of the total coating is only about 35 millionths of an inch.

These processes mean that per inch, it is one of the most expensive types of glass available to use in jewellery making.
